Chasing Latinos

Guadalupe outside Generic after a disappointing discovery.

Tonight, after the NAHJ potluck, Guadalupe and I went to El Rancho to get horchata. Lupita wanted to check out Victor, the guy I have a crush on. There weren't any open tables at El Rancho, so we ended up sipping our drinks outside on a bench. We were people watching for a while, smirking at the antics of some of the drunk college students walking by, when we saw a group of tan, good-looking guys across the street. We both love Latino men and were so excited to see a group of them, that we got up and decided to chase them down the street. We finally caught up with them as they were entering Generic Nightclub and it turns out that they were actually Middle Eastern. We couldn't help but be a little disappointed, jaja.

Besides that tiny disappointment, the night was a lot of fun. The potluck was the first purely social event the club's ever done in it's three or fours years on campus. We're hoping that if we make the club more social, we'll get more members. Right now, we have a dedicated core of about 10 people, but we know there are at least 50 Latinos in the J-school and we have close to a hundred people on our listserv.

We totally played up our Latino-ness, jaja. Carolina made sopa de albondigas, Guadalupe brought tostadas, and Jackie brought Lotería. I brought Mexican paletas!! I found them at Wal-mart, here in CoMo, and was completely shocked! They taste pretty good too. We tried the mango and coconut ones. I can't remember the name of the company right now, but they make two other flavors. I'll have to try them.

Next time we have another potluck, I'm bringing arroz con leche to continue with the Latino themed dinners. It's the easiest thing to make and so delicious!
